Ariel's Favorite Websites

Like many children these days, Ariel loves to play online. I'm pretty picky about what sites I let her play on. In addition, she only gets to play on the computer when I'm on mine, right next to the one she uses. It allows me to supervise her, help her on the more difficult games and make sure she doesn't do anything she shouldn't online. At her age it would be an accident, but it's a good habit to build.

Many of these sites are associated with television channels of the same name. What can I say? Marketing gets to them very young.

NeoK12
Educational videos on all kinds of topics, including math, science, social studies and for all grade levels. They also offer quiz games and pictures and text to help with school projects. This one should be useful for a long time. There are also fun magic, slow motion and time lapse videos.

Nick Jr.
Noggin and Nick Jr. used to be separate sites and channels, but now it's all Nick Jr. The games are a lot of fun, but the redesign made it a bit more frustrating to get to the games at the start. Once you're playing it's fine. The site also includes kid friendly and fun recipes.

PBS Kids
Offering a great range of online games and printables based on PBS Kids characters, Ariel and I really love this site. In addition to the things that are obviously appropriate for little kids, she loves to do some of the simpler experiments in the Zoom section with me.

Playhouse Disney
What child doesn't love Disney? Great characters, great shows and lots of fun. Ariel utterly adores the new show, Handy Manny, and enjoys the games as well. Like the other sites, there are stories and activities associated with many of the popular shows.

Starfall
This is a site Ariel learned about in preschool. It has a great range of educational games for preschool through second grade students. The focus is on reading comprehension and phonics.
